Title: US 8th Air Forces First Mission Post by: Mad_Russian on 25 March 2011, 17:32:31 4 July 1942 the US 8th Air Force was going to war. they borrowed 6 planes from the RAF (A-20 attack aircraft the RAF called Bostons), repainted them and off they went. 6 planes left, 3 came back.
Here is an amazing set of pictures from one of the attacks of the operation. http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/4-July-1942-8thAF.pdf (http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/4-July-1942-8thAF.pdf) Primary Sources: http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/index.shtml (http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/index.shtml) http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/4-July-1942-8thAF.pdf (http://www.taphilo.com/history/8thaf/4-July-1942-8thAF.pdf) Good Hunting.
