UK infantry, unlike others tend to generalise nowadays rather than specialise, so that one tour they may be Armoured Infantry and then they may be posted to a light Infantry role. This gives every soldier a go at every aspect of soldering. Although this is not typically true with the Guards units.
It would also bring to mind the phrase, "Jack of all trades, Masters of none", except that I did a training exercise with the BOAR way back when...late in 1977...back when they had Chieftans!!!! Those guys were absolute professionals and we were glad they were at our shoulders.
